Not necessarily. Many trucking companies are willing to hire recent graduates from an accredited truck driving school, especially given the current shortage. Many provide team driving at the beginning of your employment, so you can gain experience on the road with a seasoned driver.
How long is training?
The length and duration of your training will depend on the program you choose to attend; however, most typically last a matter of weeks, anywhere from three to six weeks.

Some truckers, if they are on the road and do not have a sleeper cab, will pull over and rest at motels. Most companies will reimburse drivers for the cost of lodging.

To become an owner-operator, you should have at least a few years experience as a company driver. Many large trucking companies offer lease programs for their drivers, which allow them lease a truck and become an independent contractor. This is a great option for most drivers because it allows them to become an owner operator without having to buy a truck initially (which can cost as much as $100,000).
